Originally forming in 1989 as a side project for
The Pixies bassist Kim Deal and
Throwing Muses guitarist Tanya Donelly,
The Breeders released the critically applauded
Pod album in 1990. The line-up altered considerably over the next few years, with Kim enlisting her sister Kelley to replace Donelly, who had formed
Belly. Their next album,
Last Splash (1993), was a Top 5 hit and featured a true alternative classic in the shape of the
'Cannonball' single. The group vanished for several years, battling with drug problems, while occasionally turning out the odd album in various different guises. With yet another spanking new line-up, the Deal sisters returned to The Breeders in 2002 with an appearance at
All Tomorrows Parties and a new album,
Title TK.
