Secret Machines

All art is a subjective experience, but music is the only art form that can really be experienced in nearly every imaginable context and circumstance. And when just the right music, context and circumstance come together, the experience can be profoundly, inexplicably magical.

Enter Secret Machines, who are set to release their first full length album ‘Now Here Is Nowhere’ in June on 679/Reprise. The 9-track album is markedly different to their highly acclaimed mini-lp ‘September 000’ and a natural progression in the band’s sound, not least because of the 3-year gap between the recording of the two records, and a hell of a lot of playing inbetween.

The latest link in the loose-knit chain that connects Pink Floyd, Neu, Can, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, La Dusseldorf, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, The Band, My Bloody Valentine and Spiritualized, Secret Machines play music that’s spatial, ambient, organic, ecstatic, hypnotic, and not a little bit psychedelic. “We’re just trying to make music that connects with people, connects with the cosmos, and connects with the gods,” explains drummer Josh Garza who along with brothers Brandon (vocals, keyboards) and Benjamin Curtis (guitar) make up Secret Machines. It’s music that will definitely take you places — which is appropriate, considering that Secret Machines’ musical quest has been an epic journey in itself which included the band’s relocation from Dallas, Texas to New York.

On 10th May ‘Sad And Lonely’ will be made available at www.thesecretmachines.com as a UK only downloadable single with video. Far from being melancholy as the title may suggest, ‘Sad And Lonely’ hangs on a nailed-down groove and a crashing, blues-banishing chorus and is a live favourite.

Having played only a handful of UK gigs so far, Secret Machines return in May. The band are currently on an extensive tour of N. America with Blonde Redhead picking up hoards of new fans along the way. Their 2 packed-out shows at SXSW this year are testament to the excitement that’s growing around the trio.
