Lee Hazlewood was born in Oklahoma in 1929. He studied medicine in Dallas and later served with the US Army during the Korean War.

His music career began in the 1960s - he released his first album, Trouble Is A Lonesome Town, in 1963. He is perhaps most famous for his collaborations with Nancy Sinatra - he penned the classic 'These Boots Are Made For Walking'.

In more recent years, Hazlewood's profile has been boosted by acclaim from the likes of Nick Cave and Lydia Lunch.

Diagnosed with terminal cancer, 2006's Cake Or Death is likely to be Hazlewood's final album.
